Providers
This pages lists various providers that you may require along your surrogacy journey including:
Counsellors
Legal Services
Fertility Clinics
Hospitals
No one service is recommended, the following are simply providers who are experienced in surrogacy services.
Caution - be cautious about paying for a service unless you know exactly what the service provides, whether it’s a legal service, what the benefit of the service is and who is providing it (i.e. is the provider ‘qualified’). Be cautious about accepting legal advice (even general) from a provider or other person who is not a lawyer. Be cautious about paying for advice in relation to International arrangements from a provider or other person who is not a lawyer. Many providers receive monetary incentives in order to recommend particular services / clinics (particularly in relation to International Surrogacy arrangements). It is highly recommended that legal advice be sought from a lawyer who specialises in International Surrogacy arrangements prior to entering into the arrangement.
Counsellors
Each State has experienced surrogacy counsellors / psychologists. Some counsellors are happy to provide zoom sessions no matter where in Australia you reside.

Legal Services
Both Intended Parents and Surrogate (and, in some States, Surrogate partner) will require independent legal advice each from their own lawyer. Generally, the Intended Parent/s lawyer will draft the required Surrogacy Agreement and the Surrogate’s lawyer will review the Agreement and provide advice to the surrogate.
The Intended Parents are responsible for all legal costs (for themselves and their Surrogate). Costs for both the drafting of the Agreement and for advice for the Surrogate will be in the vicinity of $5000. Costs associated with the Parentage Order are separate (to the Agreement cost) and range from $1,500 - $4,500 depending on the State (due to the requirements of the State).
Sarah Jefford has been an egg donor and traditional surrogate. Sarah is also a highly knowledgeable and experienced surrogacy lawyer. Sarah works in every State of Australia providing advice to intended parents and surrogates, drafting Surrogacy Agreements, and assisting with Parentage Orders. Sarah also provides free advice consults to surrogates which can be booked here. Free initial consult for potential surrogate.

Hospitals
Generally a team will give some consideration as to the type of care they would prefer i.e. public / private hospital, home birth, private midwife, midwifery group practice, private obstetrician. It is recommended that the team approach the preferred hospital prior to a pregnancy and query their surrogacy policy and whether they are able to accommodate a surrogacy team. Some considerations may be whether the hospital will accommodate both the surrogate and intended parents either in a shared room or separate rooms (depending on the team requirements), whether the whole team will able to be present in the theatre should a surrogate request/require a caesarean birth, how long the team will be able to stay post birth and costs.
Sarah Jefford has put together an excellent Planning Guide on her website - Surrogacy Birth Planning Guide.
